My current obsession

I love love love that both the Daily Show and Colbert Report now have full streaming episodes available online. It’s true that, as with many others in my age bracket, these two shows have become my main source of world news. It may seem ridiculous for two news parody shows that air on Comedy Central to be considered viable news sources, but if nothing else, they do manage to showcase well the inanity and outrageousness of contemporary American media. And they get some really great guests.

Case in point.

God I love CSN.

You, who are on the road
Must have a code
That you can live by.
And so, become yourself
Because the past
Is just a goodbye.

Teach your children well
Their father’s hell
Did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick
The one you’ll know by.
Don’t you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.

And you (Can you hear and)
Of tender years (Do you care and)
Can’t know the fears (Can you see we)
That your elders grew by (Must be free to)
And so please help (Teach your children)
Them with your youth (You believe and)
They seek the truth (Make a world that)
Before they can die (We can live in)

Teach your parents well
Their children’s hell
Will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick
The one you’ll know by.

Don’t you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.

-“Teach Your Children,” Crosby, Stills and Nash
